
This "river" is actually the Twenty Foot drain and one of several cut to drain the Fens initiated by Sir Cornelius Vermuyden in the 15th Century. We also have in the area the Forty Foot and the Sixteen Foot. I understand they get their names from the distance from bank to bank.

One of the things that the Fens with its big skies is famous for are sunsets and sunrises and here are a couple of examples:
